The Mechanical Engineering Bridge to UVic program is designed for graduates of technology diplomas who aspire to continue their education and enter the third year of engineering studies at the University of Victoria (UVic) or the University of British Columbia (UBC). This program serves as a crucial step towards becoming a professional engineer, equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the engineering field. The program is unique in Canada, recognized for its effective transition from a technology diploma to an engineering degree, and it offers a blend of theoretical and practical learning experiences.

Program structure

The Mechanical Engineering Bridge to UVic program spans a duration of 8 months, starting in January and concluding in December. The program is structured as follows:

  • Two academic terms, each consisting of 14 weeks of classes followed by an exam period.
  • Classes are scheduled for approximately 25-28 hours per week.
  • Students can expect to dedicate around three to four hours daily for homework, including weekends.
  • An optional internship work term is available from May to August.
  • Upon successful completion, students can transfer into the first academic term of the third year of engineering at UVic in January.

This program is offered on a full-time basis and includes a mandatory co-op component once students are accepted into UVic. The program is open to international students, making it accessible to a diverse range of applicants.
