Program overview

The Metal Fabricator Foundation program at BCIT is designed to kickstart your career in metal fabrication. This program equips students with essential skills in selecting, laying out, shearing, cutting, punching, drilling, forming, fitting, and welding steel plates and structural shapes. Graduates will be prepared to work in various industries, including forest, mining, construction, transportation, and agriculture. The program emphasizes hands-on experience, allowing students to engage in practical projects that reflect real-world applications, such as building bridges, cranes, and heavy equipment.

Program structure

The Metal Fabricator Foundation program is a 23-week full-time course delivered in person at the Burnaby Campus. The program structure includes:

• General Admission intakes in September and March.
• Special intakes for High School cohorts in February through the High School Partnership Program.
• Hands-on shop practice combined with theoretical learning.
• Opportunities to enter the Marine Fitter Apprenticeship program upon completion.
