Academic Requirements

Admission to the Architectural and Building Technology (ABT) program is highly competitive. In 2022, BCIT admitted 1 in 2 applicants, with successful candidates typically exceeding entrance requirements with an average of 80% or higher. Many applicants also had some industry experience.

Competitive Entry: Two-step process

Preference will be given to applicants who meet the following criteria:

Academic grades above the minimum
Requirements completed within the last five years
Related experience
Additional post-secondary academic courses

Step 1: Meet the following entrance requirements

English language proficiency: English Studies 12 (67%) or equivalent
Math: One of the following:
- Pre-Calculus 12 (67%) or
- Other acceptable BC and Yukon courses
Physics: One of the following:
- Physics 11 (67%) or
- Physics 12 (67%) (preferred)
Complete the following form for submission with your online application:
- Mandatory Applicant Questionnaire: This form will be used with other entrance requirements in the competitive selection for the program.

All applications will be reviewed by the program area at the application deadline. Admission is competitive and will be offered to the most qualified applicants.

International applicants

This program is available to international applicants. A valid BCIT study permit is required prior to starting the program. Students must complete the mandatory work component to qualify for graduation, and a co-op work permit is required prior to starting this component.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

BCIT Professional English Language Development (PELD):
- COMM 0030 – Speaking and Listening Skills for EAL Students 2 and COMM 0005 – Technical Communication Skills for EAL Students 4 - 70%
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test - 70 overall band score with no component below 60
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic only) - Overall score 6.5, No band less than 5.5
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Overall score 60, No skill score less than 60
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) - Overall score 86, No section score less than 20
