Academic Requirements

The Academic Requirements for the Interdisciplinary Therapy Assistant Diploma program at Bow Valley College are as follows:

Minimum 60% in English Language Arts 30-1, or 70% in English Language Arts 30-2, or equivalent
Minimum 60% in Biology 30 or equivalent
Credit in Math 10C or equivalent

Applicants considering this program must be able to:

Work variable shifts and weekends
Be on their feet for extended periods of time
Use their knees, back, and arms to move clients who have minimal body strength
Function effectively in stressful situations

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

Before you apply, make sure you meet the language proficiency requirements for your program. Bow Valley College teaches courses in Canadian English. To be admitted, you must demonstrate English proficiency, usually through high school or college transcripts or an English language test, depending on your program.

English language test results are valid for two (2) years from the day of testing. Results that expire before the program start date cannot be accepted. Official results must be submitted.

The English proficiency requirements for the Interdisciplinary Therapy Assistant Diploma are:

BVC Academic English 1: Not accepted
BVC Academic English 2: Minimum grade of B
Canadian Language Benchmarks: 8 in each strand
IELTS Academic: 6.5 with minimum band score of 6.0
PTE A (Pearson Test of English): 59-64
TOEFL: 84 with no section score below 21

OR Successful completion of an Alberta Education English Language Arts course that meets the academic Academic Requirements for the Career Program.

OR Transcripts showing successful completion of three (3) years of full-time secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction.

OR Transcripts showing successful completion of one (1) year of full-time post-secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction.
