The Fitness and Health Promotion Ontario College Diploma program is a two-year course designed to equip students with the skills necessary to become effective fitness and health consultants. This program focuses on planning, promoting, and delivering a variety of services aimed at enhancing the health, fitness, and well-being of individuals and groups across diverse settings. Students will learn to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle, enabling them to assist others in achieving their health and lifestyle goals. The program also prepares students for certification exams in group fitness and personal training, ensuring they are ready to meet the demands of the evolving fitness and wellness market.

Program structure

The Fitness and Health Promotion program spans a two-year period, consisting of four semesters. Students are required to complete all four semesters consecutively if they start in January to graduate the following year. The program includes:

  • Field placements that provide hands-on industry experience.
  • Preparation for certification exams in group fitness and personal training.
  • Opportunities to pursue additional certifications nationally and internationally.

Students will engage in a variety of learning formats, including classroom instruction, online learning, and practical lab experiences. The program emphasizes the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical application, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the workforce.

The Fitness and Health Promotion program offers several unique experiences that enhance student learning and employability:

  • Field Placements: Students complete 150 hours of work placement in the final three semesters, allowing them to apply their skills in real-world settings.
  • Certification Preparation: Graduates are eligible to challenge nationally-recognized certifications in Group Fitness and Personal Training.
  • Advanced Standing Opportunities: Graduates can consider advanced standing entry into level 3 of the Recreation and Leisure Services program, potentially earning two diplomas in three years.

Graduates of the Fitness and Health Promotion program can pursue a variety of career paths in the fitness industry, including:

  • Personal Trainer: Work one-on-one with clients to develop personalized fitness programs and help them achieve their health goals.
  • Fitness Instructor: Lead group fitness classes, providing guidance and motivation to participants.
  • Program Coordinator: Oversee fitness programs in community centers, gyms, or corporate wellness facilities.
