Program Overview

The Hairstylist program at Vancouver Community College (VCC) is perfect for those with a passion for hair, fashion, and helping others look and feel their best. This hands-on program provides you with the foundational skills to start your career in the beauty industry, focusing on modern hairstyling techniques, haircutting, colouring, chemical treatments, and salon management practices.

Whether you dream of becoming a stylist at a trendy salon, starting your own business, or working in film and fashion, this program is designed to support your goals with the practical experience and knowledge employers are looking for.

Program length: 11 months full-time

Program Structure

Throughout the 11-month program, students learn in a dynamic and supportive environment using real salon tools and working with real clients in a supervised setting.

• You will learn to:
  • Perform haircuts for men, women, and children
  • Apply hair colouring, highlights, and chemical texturing
  • Style hair for everyday and special occasions
  • Understand salon operations and customer service
  • Maintain health and safety standards in professional settings
• Upon completion, students will be eligible to write the Industry Training Authority (ITA) exam for Level 1 Hairstylist certification.
