Program Overview

The Intensive Academic English Program (IAEP) at the English Language Centre is designed to equip students with essential language skills for academic success at the University of Manitoba. This program is particularly beneficial for those looking to meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement for various undergraduate and graduate programs. With a focus on enhancing English language skills, the IAEP prepares students to thrive in their academic pursuits, ensuring they are well-prepared for university-level studies.

Program Structure

The IAEP is structured to provide comprehensive language training over a 14-week period, with classes held 24 hours per week. The program consists of six levels of study, catering to different proficiency levels:

  • Foundations Level: Focuses on basic English skills for daily life.
  • Levels 1 to 4: Designed for intermediate and advanced students, emphasizing skills necessary for academic success.
  • Level 5: Prepares students for admission to the University of Manitoba, meeting the English Language Proficiency requirements.

Students can choose from various intakes throughout the year, including January, May, and September. Additionally, a new 6-month program option is available for those wishing to improve their English skills. Classes may be delivered in-person, remotely, or in a hybrid format, ensuring flexibility for all learners.
