Program overview
The Bridge to Academic Success in English (BASE) program is designed for students who meet Waterloo's academic admission requirements but may not meet the English language requirements. This program provides an opportunity to enhance English reading, writing, and speaking skills in a supportive university environment while earning credits towards a degree at the University of Waterloo. BASE serves as a stepping stone for students to transition smoothly into full-time university studies, ensuring they are well-prepared for academic success and integration into Canadian student life.
Program structure
The BASE program is structured to accommodate students' varying needs and consists of two options:
- Four-month program
- Eight-month program
Additionally, there is an intensive version known as iBASE, which lasts for 7 weeks and takes place before the first year begins, during July and August. Regardless of the program length, students will focus on improving their English language skills while also taking one or two credit courses, depending on their faculty. This tailored approach ensures that students receive the support they need based on their specific English language proficiency levels. The program not only enhances language skills but also prepares students for the academic challenges they will face in their degree programs.
