Academic Requirements

To apply for the Joint Honours Degree - Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) - Sociology & Feminist and Gender Studies (OYA) (French Immersion) (Optional Co-op) program at the University of Ottawa, applicants must meet the following Academic Requirements:

Applicants must have received or be in the process of receiving their Senior High School Certificate - Bằng Tốt Nghiệp Trung Học Phổ Thông.
Applicants must have a minimum average of 7.5/10 and have passed five subjects (including the prerequisites) in the senior year. Requirements may be higher depending on the program of study chosen.
Prerequisite courses must be completed in the senior year, with a minimum of 5/10 required.
Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

For international students, particularly those from Vietnam and other Asian countries, the following additional requirements apply:

Students must submit transcripts for their last three years of secondary studies.
Students must provide proof of diploma upon completion of their studies.
If applicable, students must also submit transcripts for any postsecondary studies completed.

Language Requirements

If you’re applying for an English-language program and have not completed at least three years of full-time study in an institution where English is the only language of instruction (aside from in language courses) in a country where English is an official language, you must submit your official score in one of the following language tests. The official results must be sent directly to us online from the test centre.

In order to be considered for a program offered in English at the University of Ottawa, you must demonstrate that you are sufficiently proficient in the language to follow a postsecondary academic program. Please note that citizenship is not considered when evaluating English proficiency. To show that your English proficiency is at the academic level required for university studies, provide proof of either:

Postsecondary studies in English; or
Last three years of high school taken in English (Grades 10, 11 or 12)

IELTS: Overall score of 6.5 with a writing section score of 6.5.
TOEFL IBT: Overall score of 86 with a writing section score of 22.
TOEFL Home edition: Overall score of 86 with a writing section score of 22.
TOEFL Essentials: Overall score of 8.5 with a writing section score of 8.
Duolingo English Test: Overall score of 120 with a literacy score of 120.
PTE: Overall score of 60 with a writing section score of 60.
Cambridge English B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: Overall score of 180.
CAEL: Overall score of 60 with a score of 60 in reading, speaking, and listening performance sections.
