Program overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Global and International Studies at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) is designed to prepare students for a rapidly globalizing world. This program focuses on developing global citizens who can think critically and solve complex problems. Students will engage with a variety of disciplines to understand the macro-level structures and processes that shape societies worldwide. A unique aspect of this program is the emphasis on foreign language training, equipping students with essential skills for global careers in various sectors, including academia, business, government, and non-profit organizations.

Program structure

The Bachelor of Arts in Global and International Studies is structured to provide a comprehensive education over a minimum of 120 credit hours. The program includes:

  • 57 credit hours of Global and International Studies coursework
  • 21 credit hours at the lower level
  • 30 credit hours at the upper level
  • 6 credit hours from the Cultures and Regions requirement

Students have the option to pursue a joint major in Economics and Global and International Studies or in Global and International Studies and Political Science. Additionally, the program offers opportunities for co-operative education and internships, allowing students to gain practical experience in their field of study.
