Program overview

The Sustainable Urban & Transportation Planning program at Seneca Polytechnic is a two-semester graduate certificate designed to equip students with the skills necessary for planning roles that prioritize sustainability, inclusivity, and equity in urban areas. This program emphasizes the integration of economic, social, cultural, political, and environmental considerations to develop innovative solutions for urban and transportation projects. Students will engage in case studies to enhance their understanding of land development and the legal frameworks governing land use planning, while also exploring current policies aimed at fostering sustainable communities and improving urban infrastructure.

Program structure

The Sustainable Urban & Transportation Planning program is structured to provide a comprehensive learning experience over a duration of 2 semesters (8 months). The program is offered in a flexible delivery format, allowing students to choose between in-person and online learning options. Key features of the program structure include:

• Full-time study option
• Experiential learning opportunities through industry-related capstone projects, studio-based projects, field trips, and guest speakers
• Integration of the latest technologies, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

This program is also eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), providing international students with the opportunity to gain work experience in Canada after graduation.
