Continuing Care Assistant

Academic Requirements

To apply for the Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, applicants must meet the following Academic Requirements:

• Grade 12 or successful completion of fifteen (15) post-secondary credits from a recognized institution.
• Personal and physical suitability, as the job is physically demanding and requires being on your feet continuously throughout shifts.
• A Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search prior to entering the clinical component of the program (an interview may be required). Note that access to a clinical placement may be declined based on the contents of the Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
• Standard First Aid and CPR Heartsaver CPR AED – Level C or equivalent are required prior to entry into clinical.
• Current immunization records.
• N95 respirator mask testing (minimum of 2 masks) prior to entry into the clinical practicum.
• 2015 WHMIS Globally Harmonized System (GHS) certification upon admission into the program, with recertification required every three years.
• Current Transferring, Lifting and Repositioning (TLR®) certification and Professional Assault Response Training (PART®) Intermediate certification.
• Food Safe Level 1 Certification prior to entry into the clinical practicum.
• A co-op work permit (international students only) to participate in the mandatory CLIN 100 and CLIN 219 in this program.

For applicants who do not possess the academic qualifications, alternative admission may be available if evidence of probable success can be established through an alternative admission assessment. Applicants are automatically considered for alternative admission, but some specific requirements may still need to be met.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

English is the language of instruction and examination at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. If your first or primary language is not English, and/or your country is not exempt, you will need to provide evidence of having the English language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing necessary to be successful in the Saskatchewan Polytechnic program to which you are applying.

Saskatchewan students graduating from Fransaskois and French Immersion high school programs are not required to meet further English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements.

Accepted English Language Proficiency Tests:

• CAEL (CE/Online): 60 overall, 50 each component
• CanTEST: 4.5 (listening/reading), 4.0 (speaking/writing)
• Duolingo: 110 overall
• IB English A1/A2: HL English, grade 4+
• IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall, 5.0 each component
• PTEA (incl. online): 63 overall, 50 each
• TOEFL iBT: 81 overall, 19 each
• TOEFL PBT: 550 overall, TWE 3.5, TSE 50
• Cambridge (C1/C2): C1 grade
