Program overview

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineer program at Red River College Polytechnic is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills required for maintaining both large and small airplanes and helicopters. This program is approved by Transport Canada and prepares students for the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Transport Canada License. It meets the accreditation requirements of the Canadian Aviation Regulations and is accredited by the Canadian Council for Aviation and Aerospace (CCAA). The program typically has entry dates in January, August, and October, and is primarily filled by Manitoba residents, although out-of-province applicants may apply if seats are available.

Program structure

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineer program spans a total length of 2 academic years. During this time, students will engage in a combination of theoretical study and practical projects related to aircraft maintenance. The program is structured to provide students with:

  • Basic training towards an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer 'M' License.
  • Accreditation that meets the standards set by Transport Canada.
  • Hands-on experience that contributes to the required aviation maintenance experience.
  • Preparation for the technical examinations necessary to obtain the AME license.

Upon graduation, students who have attained Transport Canada approved training status will receive a Red River College Polytechnic Diploma along with a Letter of Accreditation containing a Transport Canada number. Graduates will also gain credit for nineteen (19) months of the forty-eight (48) months of aviation maintenance experience required for the AME license.
