Program Overview

The Pharmacy Technician program at NorQuest College is a nationally accredited diploma program designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills required for a successful career in the pharmacy field. This program focuses on various critical aspects of pharmacy practice, including dispensing prescriptions, compounding medications, preparing sterile products, and providing patient care. Graduates will be well-prepared to meet the demands of this fast-paced and highly respected occupation, ensuring they can contribute effectively to healthcare teams and patient outcomes.

Program Structure

The Pharmacy Technician program is structured to provide a comprehensive educational experience over a period of 5 to 8 terms. Students can choose from two delivery options to best suit their learning preferences:

  • In-person delivery: This option spans 2 years and involves face-to-face instruction with scheduled class times. It is ideal for students who can commit to full-time studies.
  • Blended delivery: This option takes 3 years and combines online learning with in-person labs, requiring attendance for 2-3 evenings per week and 1-3 weekends per term.

All students will participate in practical, hands-on training in NorQuest’s pharmacy technician lab, where they will gain experience in compounding, sterile product preparation, and inventory management. Additionally, the program includes 360 hours of work experience through two practicums, allowing students to apply their skills in real-world settings. Attendance to all lab components is mandatory, ensuring that students receive the necessary practical training to excel in their future careers.
