Program overview

Train in one of Canada’s largest Health Care Aide programs and learn to provide front-line care and support in hospitals, home care, and continuing care. This program prepares you for a rewarding role supporting individuals who need care, dignity, and compassion. You will build essential skills to provide front-line support in various health care settings and graduate ready to take the Alberta Health Care Aide Registration Exam, stepping into an in-demand career.

Program structure

The Health Care Aide program at NorQuest College offers flexible delivery options to suit your learning style and schedule. The program is available in two lengths:

  • 8 months - Full-time study with in-person classes at the Edmonton Campus or online with in-person labs.
  • 12 months - Evening classes at the Edmonton Campus.

All delivery options include a mandatory in-person lab and clinical component, which may account for 50% of course hours. You will also gain valuable on-the-job experience through:

  • 320 hours of work experience from three practicums.
  • Two instructor-led clinical placements and one consolidated clinical placement.

Students must arrange their own transportation to clinical placements, which may require travel up to 100 km. Additionally, there is a Health Care Aide Workplace Education option for those currently working in a caregiving position, allowing for certification while employed.
