Program Overview

The Health Care Aide program is designed to equip students with essential knowledge and hands-on skills necessary for providing person-centered care within a health care team. This program focuses on developing core skills required to assist individuals with various health care needs, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of the health care environment.

 

Program Structure

The Health Care Aide Certificate program is structured as follows:

  • Program Length: 2 Terms (8 months)
  • Credential: Certificate
  • Delivery Options:
    • Full-time Program Delivery – On-campus study
    • Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) – For those with relevant work experience

Throughout the program, students will engage in a combination of on-campus labs, in-class learning, and clinical instruction. It is important for applicants to be prepared for shift work, including weekends, and to be physically capable of assisting clients with limited mobility.

 

Featured Experiences

  • Hands-on lab time integrated into several courses, utilizing seven healthcare labs designed like actual healthcare facilities.
  • Work Integrated Learning placements that may require travel to various locations, including outside the City of Calgary.
  • Opportunities for clinical instruction and practical experience in real-world settings.
  • Mandatory immunizations, including Rubella and COVID-19 vaccinations, to participate in Work Integrated Learning.
  • Current CPR certification is recommended, with options available through Bow Valley College.
