Program Overview

The Dual Degree program at Nipissing University combines a Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare and Social Development with a Bachelor of Education in Primary/Junior (PE). This unique interdisciplinary program is designed for students who are passionate about social issues and aspire to make a meaningful impact on society. Students will explore critical topics such as social policy, human behavior, and social justice while developing essential skills in advocacy, community organizing, and program evaluation. The Dual Degree program is structured to provide a comprehensive educational experience over six years. Key details include:

  • Credits: A total of 60 credits for the Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare and Social Development, and additional credits for the Bachelor of Education.
  • Collaborative Degree-Diploma Option: Students can apply for a collaborative program with Canadore College, allowing them to earn a Social Service Worker diploma alongside their degree.
  • Fieldwork Placement: In the third year, students will complete a 350-hour fieldwork placement at a human service agency, gaining practical experience in the field.

This program also offers advanced standing for students who have previously completed a two-year Social Service Worker diploma, allowing them to receive up to two full years of credit towards their degree.
