The Bachelor of Technology – Sustainability is a three-year applied degree designed to equip graduates with the interdisciplinary knowledge, technical expertise, and hands-on experience necessary to excel in complex sustainability roles. This program addresses the growing industry need for sustainability practitioners who possess a blend of skills in technology, environmental science, and social impacts. Students will engage in real-world applications, preparing them to drive meaningful change in various sectors focused on sustainability.

Program structure

The Bachelor of Technology – Sustainability program spans a total of three academic years, which includes periods of eight months of study along with a mandatory work experience term. The program structure is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of sustainable technologies and practices through:

Hands-on learning opportunities in the first two years, preparing students for a work term placement.
A capstone project in the third year, allowing students to apply their skills in real-world settings.
A mandatory work experience that includes at least one term in a formal work environment, typically requiring a minimum of 420 hours of work.

Academic Requirements

The Bachelor of Technology – Sustainability program has specific academic requirements for admission. Applicants must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or an equivalent qualification, along with a minimum of six (6) Grade 12 University (U) or university/college (M) courses. The required courses include:

Grade 12 English, U level
Grade 12 Mathematics, U level

The average of these six required courses must be 65% or higher.

Additionally, applicants must complete one of the following senior science courses:

Grade 11 Environmental Science (SVN3M)
Grade 11 or 12 Biology, U Level (SBI3U, SBI4U)
Grade 11 or 12 Chemistry, U Level (SCH3U, SCH4U)
Grade 12 Science, University/College Preparation (SNC4M)

If you do not have a senior science course, you may consider applying to the Bachelor of Management – Sustainability program instead.

For those who have completed post-secondary courses in math, English or communications, physics, chemistry, and biology, these can be applied toward the above requirements. Alternatively, the successful completion of an Ontario College Diploma, Ontario College Advanced Diploma, Degree, or equivalent is also acceptable.

Language Requirements

For applicants with English as a Second Language, the following language proficiency tests are accepted for the Bachelor of Technology - Sustainability program:

IELTS – Academic: 6.5 (no band below 6.0)
TOEFL: 90 iBT (with a minimum score of 22 in Reading, Listening, and Speaking, and 24 in Writing)
