Program overview

The Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN) program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University is designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge required for a successful career in psychiatric nursing. This undergraduate program emphasizes a holistic approach to mental health, focusing on health promotion, therapeutic relationships, and the importance of diversity in care. The program is recognized by The British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and is open to both domestic and international students. Program structure

The Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing program is structured to provide a comprehensive education over a minimum of three years. The program includes:

  • Psychiatric/mental health nursing practice experiences integrated throughout the curriculum.
  • Opportunities for placements in various settings, including local, national, and international environments.
  • Flexible scheduling, with practice experiences occurring during days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Students are responsible for their own transportation and expenses during these experiences.

Students must complete a total of 123 credits to graduate, and the maximum allowable time to finish the program is seven years. The curriculum is designed to shift the focus from illness to health, emphasizing the person’s experience with health and healing.
