Program Overview

Gear up to meet the growing demand for health and wellness professionals with the Fitness and Health Promotion program at Cambrian College. This hands-on program is designed to channel your passion for fitness, health, and wellness into a rewarding career. You will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to create and lead engaging programs for individuals of all ages and abilities. The curriculum covers various aspects of fitness and health promotion, including physical literacy, fitness assessment, nutrition, and recreation management. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in activities within a private multipurpose fitness and health promotion laboratory, allowing you to hone your skills and inspire others to embrace a healthier lifestyle!

Program Structure

The Fitness and Health Promotion program is structured to provide a comprehensive education over a period of 4 semesters (2 years). The program is delivered on-campus and is full-time, ensuring that students receive an immersive learning experience. Key features of the program structure include:

  • Hands-on Experience: Students will complete a mandatory unpaid work placement in their final semester, providing real-world experience.
  • Personal Training Project: A 25-hour personal training project is included to enhance practical skills.
  • Access to Facilities: Students benefit from fully-equipped weight and cardio rooms, outdoor running tracks, and specialized fitness laboratories.
  • Experiential Learning: The program includes outdoor field trips that combine hands-on learning with excitement.
  • Certification Opportunities: Students can obtain additional certifications from recognized organizations, enhancing their qualifications.

  • Collaborative Partnerships: The program is the first in Canada to sign a memorandum of understanding with Sport for Life, providing access to various certifications at no cost.
