Program Overview

The Interior Design Fundamentals Certificate at BCIT serves as the foundational year for all Interior Design programs offered by the institution. This program is designed to introduce students to the essential concepts and theories of interior design, particularly focusing on residential spaces. Students will engage with a variety of topics including design theory, programming, analysis, concept development, space planning, and sustainability. The program is delivered in person and is available in both full-time and flexible learning formats, allowing students to choose the pace that best suits their needs.

Program Structure

The Interior Design Fundamentals Certificate program is structured as follows:

• Program Length: 11 months for full-time students, delivered over three terms starting in September.
• Credits: A total of 47 credits are required to complete the program.
• Delivery Options: Available in both full-time and flexible learning formats.
• Course Availability: Courses are offered in each term, starting in January, April, and September for flexible learning students.
• Progression: Students are encouraged to continue to the Diploma in Interior Design or the Bachelor of Interior Design upon completion of the certificate.

Students in the full-time program follow a fixed curriculum, while those in flexible learning can register for courses on a course-by-course basis, providing them with greater flexibility.
