Academic Requirements

For the Bachelor of Interior Design program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, the following academic requirements must be met:

In addition to the School of Design's Admission Requirements, which consist of KPU's undergraduate English Proficiency Requirement, these program-specific admission requirements apply.

Studio courses require a minimum grade of C+ in order to progress in the program. All other courses require a minimum grade of C to continue.

Students must complete and log 80 hours of practical experience in an interior design or architectural firm under the supervision of a registered interior designer. This practical experience can occur anytime during the program but must be completed before IDSN 4880 in Year 4 of the program.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

To be eligible for the Bachelor of Interior Design program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English through one of the following accepted examinations:

KPU English Placement Test (EPT) with placement into ENGL 1100
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): Score of 70 or higher with no sub score less than 60, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
Duolingo English Test: Score of 110 or higher, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Test: Overall band of 6.5 or higher, with a minimum of 6.0 in each band, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
Pearson Test of English (PTE): Score of 61 or higher, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): iBT 88 or higher, with no sub score less than 20, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
Accuplacer: Reading score of 260, Writing score of 250 and WritePlacer Essay score of 6, or higher, taken within the last 2 years from the term of admission
