Academic Requirements

The Full-Stack Web Development Diploma program has specific Academic Requirements that prospective students must meet to be considered for enrollment. Here are the key requirements:

• Competitive Entry: This program follows a two-step competitive entry process. Preference will be given to applicants with academic grades above the minimum.

Step 1: Meet the following entrance requirements

• English Language Proficiency: Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English through equivalent qualifications.
• Mathematics: One of the following courses is required:
  • Pre-Calculus 12 (67%)
  • Foundations of Math 12 (73%)
  • Other acceptable BC and Yukon courses

Step 2: Department Assessment

Admission is competitive and will be offered to the most qualified applicants. The competitive calculation formula takes the average of the applicant’s secondary or post-secondary English and math scores. Make sure to advise Admissions of your highest grades.

International Applicants: This program is available to international applicants. A valid BCIT study permit is required prior to starting the program. Students must also complete a mandatory work component to qualify for graduation, which requires a co-op work permit.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

To apply for the Full-Stack Web Development Diploma program, you must demonstrate proficiency in English. The following assessments are accepted for Category 2 Language Requirements:

• English Studies 12 or English First People 12 or Acceptable equivalent high school course - 67%
• BCIT English Competency Assessment:
  • COMM 0015 – English Competency Assessment and COMM 0033 – English Speaking and Listening Assessment - 70%
• COMM 1009 – Technical Writing: Definitions, Instructions and Process Descriptions - 67%
• COMM 1106 – Introduction to Business and Technical Communication (With Language Development Component) - 67%
• BCIT Professional English Language Development (PELD):
  • COMM 0030 – Speaking and Listening Skills for EAL Students 2 and COMM 0005 – Technical Communication Skills for EAL Students 4 - 70%
• COMM 0007 – Introductory Communication for Technology Entry and COMM 0016 – Communication with ELT - 67%
• BCIT Technical Academic English (TAE) 5 - 60%
• Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test - 70 overall band score with no component below 60
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Overall score 6.5 with no band less than 5.5
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Overall score 60 with no skill score less than 60
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) - Overall score 86 with no section score less than 20
