The Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Winnipeg offers students a unique opportunity to explore the rich cultural and linguistic heritage of East Asia, including China, Korea, and Japan. This program is designed to prepare students for the challenges of a globalized world by providing them with a deep understanding of East Asian societies, their languages, and their cultural practices. Through a multi-disciplinary approach, students will engage with various aspects of East Asian history, literature, religion, and politics, equipping them with the skills necessary to navigate and contribute to an increasingly interconnected world.

Program structure

The Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Languages and Cultures is structured to provide a comprehensive education over a 4-year period. The program is administered through the Department of Religion & Culture and includes:

  • Study of languages: Chinese (Mandarin and Classical), Korean, and Japanese.
  • Multi-disciplinary study of cultures, including Religion & Culture, History, Literature, Cinema, Economics, International Development Studies, and Politics.
  • Options for students to add a Minor in East Asian Languages and Cultures alongside another Major.

Students will have the flexibility to choose from a variety of courses that align with their interests, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience. The program emphasizes both language proficiency and cultural understanding, preparing graduates for diverse career paths.
