Program overview
The University Pathway - Canadian Career Stream is a Certificate program designed to prepare students for success in their academic journey at the University of Victoria (UVic). This intensive program focuses on enhancing academic English skills while providing an introduction to Canadian culture. Successful completion of this program satisfies the English language proficiency requirement for admission to many UVic undergraduate degree programs. The program is structured to help students polish their skills in oral presentations, note-taking, report writing, reading academic texts, and research, ensuring they are well-equipped for their future studies.
Program structure
The University Pathway - Canadian Career Stream is a 4-week intensive program that offers a comprehensive approach to academic preparation. The program includes:
- 20 class hours per week, totaling 80 program hours
- Two main courses: "Advanced English" and "Introduction to Canadian Studies"
- Optional dormitory accommodation and meals available
- Weekly writing clinics to enhance writing skills
- Tutorial support by teaching assistants for both courses
This program is designed to start in August, just before the academic year begins in September, allowing students to transition smoothly into their university studies. Additionally, students may receive optional UVic credit for the "Introduction to Canadian Studies" course, further enriching their academic experience.
