Program overview

The University Admission Preparation (UAP) program is designed for advanced-level learners who are preparing to apply for a degree program at the University of Victoria (UVic). This program focuses on enhancing English language proficiency and essential study skills necessary for academic success. With a duration of 12 weeks, students will engage in a variety of classes and activities that foster both language development and cultural integration. Upon successful completion, students will receive a Certificate of Completion, which satisfies the English language requirement for many UVic undergraduate and graduate programs.

The UAP program is structured to provide a comprehensive learning experience over a 12-week period. Key features of the program include:

  • Delivery Style: Face-to-face classes
  • Class Hours: 18 hours per week, totaling 256 program hours
  • Skills Development: Focus on oral presentations, notetaking, essay writing, reading academic texts, and researching
  • Support Services: Access to academic mentoring, coaching, and personal counseling
  • Optional Activities: Free activities guided by Cultural Assistants and conversation practice with Canadian volunteers

Students will also participate in specialized skills classes that focus on university preparation skills, including grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation essentials. This program is ideal for those who have been granted conditional admission to UVic or are looking to enhance their academic English skills.
