Program overview

The Master of Environmental Management (MEM) program at UNB is designed to equip students with the practical skills and experience necessary for a successful career as an environmental or natural resource manager. This course-based graduate degree emphasizes the integration of environmental science, policy, and management, allowing students to tackle contemporary environmental challenges effectively. The program includes a work-integrated internship, providing students with real-world experience that is crucial for their professional development.

Program structure

The MEM program is structured to be completed over a 16-month period, ensuring an intensive learning experience. Key features of the program structure include:

  • Continuous enrollment in courses or internships throughout the program duration.
  • Completion of a minimum of 30 credit hours of coursework, alongside the MEM internship and report, totaling 36 credit hours.
  • Internship typically occurs during the summer term, which is the third term of the program.
  • Students are responsible for securing their own internship positions, which can be paid or volunteer roles.
  • Access to job postings through UNB’s Experiential Education for internship opportunities.

Students will be enrolled in four semesters (fall, winter, summer, fall) and are required to take a minimum of three courses per semester to maintain full-time status.
