Program Overview

The Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education with a focus on Second Languages - Japanese is designed for those who aspire to become language teachers. This program emphasizes not only the development of essential speaking and writing skills but also fosters an appreciation for the history and culture associated with the Japanese language. The Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education program is typically completed in a four-year timeframe, although it can also be pursued as an after-degree. The program structure includes:

  • A five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT)
  • A nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT)
  • Opportunity to choose two areas of specialization, allowing for a major and minor

Throughout the program, students will have the chance to teach in their major subject during both the IPT and APT, providing practical teaching experience. This program is designed to prepare graduates for teacher certification in Alberta upon completion.
