Academic Requirements

For students applying to the Bachelor of Science - General Entry program at St. Francis Xavier University, the following Academic Requirements must be met:

Minimum GPA: An overall average of 70% in Grade 12 is required, with no grade below 65% in each of the required subjects. Please note that admission to limited enrolment programs is competitive, and meeting the minimum average does not guarantee admission.

Students who are currently in Grade 12 and applying for early admission must have the program requirements completed in Grade 11 and be registered in the program prerequisites in Grade 12 to be eligible for an early offer. Otherwise, offers will be made after receipt of the final first-term Grade 12 transcript.

Prerequisite Courses: For the Bachelor of Science program, the following courses are required:

English 30-1
Math 30-1 or Math 31
Two of the following: Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Computer Science 30 or Computer Programming 30, Environmental Science 30 or Geology 30, Physics 30
One other university preparatory course

Language Requirements

Pearson Test of English – Academic: 60 overall with no score below 50.
Oxford ELLT Digital: 7 overall with no band lower than 6.
Oxford ELLT Global: 7 overall with no band lower than 6.

Students may be exempt from providing proof of English language proficiency if they meet certain criteria, such as having studied for the last two years in an English-speaking high school or university, or if they have achieved a minimum 70% average in Grade 12 English while enrolled in the Nova Scotia International Students Program (NSISP).

If an applicant's test scores fall below the minimum requirement but they meet other admission criteria, they may be offered admission into the English for Academic Purposes program, which allows for conditional admission into a bachelor’s degree program upon successful completion.
