Academic Requirements

The Academic Requirements for the Educational Assistant program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic are as follows:

• Grade 12: Applicants must have completed Grade 12.
• Criminal Record Check: Accepted applicants may be required to provide evidence of a Criminal Record Check and/or Vulnerable Sector Checks prior to entering the practicum component of the program. At the discretion of the practicum agency, the student may be declined access to a clinical or work placement based on the contents of the Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Checks. The cost of these checks is the responsibility of the student.
• Co-op Work Permit: Accepted international students require a co-op work permit to complete the practicum requirements of this program. This is mandatory. Students who do not have a co-op work permit will not be allowed to participate in their practicums. It is the student's responsibility to ensure they have the required documentation to study in Canada and a co-op work permit.
• Alternative Admission: Applicants who do not possess the academic qualifications for a program may be admitted if evidence of probable success can be established through an alternative admission assessment. Some specific Academic Requirements may still need to be met.
• ACCUPLACER© Scores: For alternative admission, the following cut scores are required:
  • 250 in Arithmetic
  • 250 in Reading
  • 245 in Writing
  • 5 in Writeplacer
• Post-secondary Credits: Some programs allow applicants to meet the admission grade level requirement using 15 approved post-secondary credits. Specific course requirements may be met through alternative post-secondary courses.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

English is the language of instruction and examination at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. If your first or primary language is not English, and/or your country is not exempt, you will need to provide evidence of having the English language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing necessary to be successful in the Saskatchewan Polytechnic program to which you are applying.

Saskatchewan students graduating from Fransaskois and French Immersion high school programs are not required to meet further English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements.

Accepted English Language Proficiency Tests:

• CAEL (CE/Online): 60 overall, 50 each component
• CanTEST: 4.5 (listening/reading), 4.0 (speaking/writing)
• Duolingo: 110 overall
• IB English A1/A2: HL English, grade 4+
• IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall, 5.0 each component
• PTEA (incl. online): 63 overall, 50 each
• TOEFL iBT: 81 overall, 19 each
• TOEFL PBT: 550 overall, TWE 3.5, TSE 50
• Cambridge (C1/C2): C1 grade
