Academic Requirements

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) - Executive Management program has specific academic requirements that prospective students must meet to ensure their eligibility for admission.

Standard admission

• Completion of a four-year (or comparable) undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.

• Normally, at least five years of full-time relevant work experience, with three years at a *management level and increasing levels of responsibility.

*Management level (experience) could include one or more of the following:

• Formal organizational management or leadership roles in which you directly supervise staff, budgets, or complete performance-oriented work with individuals, groups, or teams.
• Roles involving consultation, negotiation with, or management of diverse interest groups, in a complex environment.
• Roles in which you lead others toward shared goals and outcomes.
• Roles in which you influence, organize, and coordinate groups of people.

• For all applicants, any acquisition of a professional designation, such as a CA, PMP, or other nationally recognized distinctions, should be noted on your resume in your application package.

Language Requirements

Students at Royal Roads University must meet the English language requirements to ensure they can effectively participate in their programs. For the Master of Business Administration (MBA) - Executive Management program, the following English language proficiency tests are accepted:

• International English Language Testing System (IELTS-A): RRU accepts IELTS Academic taken at a test centre or online and IELTS Academic One Skill Retake.
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL-iBT): RRU accepts TOEFL-iBT, TOEFL iBT Home Edition, and TOEFL MyBest Scores.
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE-A)
• Duolingo English Test (DET)

The minimum test score requirements for the MBA program are as follows:

• IELTS-Academic: 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in writing and speaking, and 6.0 in listening and reading.
• TOEFL-iBT (1-120 scale): 88 overall with a minimum of 24 in writing, and 20 in listening, reading, and speaking.
• TOEFL-iBT (1-6 scale): 4.5 overall with a minimum of 5 in writing, 4.5 in listening, and 4 in reading and speaking.
• PTE-A: 60 overall with a minimum of 60 in writing and speaking, and 58 in listening and reading.
• DET: 120 overall with a minimum of 110 for literacy, comprehension, and conversation; and 115 for production.

Test results are considered valid for two years from the date of your exam. Results are considered official when sent directly from the testing organization. Please check with our team for more details.
