Academic Requirements

For the Bachelor of Science - Biology program at Mount Royal University, the following academic requirements apply:

International Students - Admission Requirements:

You will be considered an international applicant if you are:
- Living and applying from outside of Canada and require a VISA/study permit to study in Canada
- An international student currently studying in the English Language Program (ESL/EAL) at Mount Royal University
- An international student currently studying at another institution in Canada
- Living and working in Canada but are not a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident

Admission Categories:

High school applicants: You will be considered a high school applicant if you are in your final year of high school, have left or completed high school, and have completed fewer than eight post-secondary courses. Your competitive (conditional) admission average will be based on your top two Group A subjects.
Post-secondary applicants: You will be considered a post-secondary applicant if you have completed four or more post-secondary courses by December 31 and will have completed eight or more post-secondary courses by June 30 (for the following Fall Semester). Your competitive (conditional) admission average will be based on your four most recently completed post-secondary courses as of December 31 for the following Fall Semester. Courses presented for admission must be from an accredited post-secondary institution and must be transferable courses as determined by MRU.
Mature applicants: You will be considered a mature applicant if the previous categories do not apply to you and you are at least 21 years old by September 1 (for the Fall Semester). Your competitive (conditional) admission average will be based on your top two Group A subjects.

Transcripts: When you apply for admission, final, official transcripts are required for all high school (secondary) and post-secondary coursework completed. Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

Applicants must meet two separate English requirements for admission to Mount Royal if their first language (learned and understood) is not English.

Demonstrated English Language Proficiency can be achieved in one of the following ways:

High School/Secondary and/or Post-secondary (transferable to MRU) courses: 2 years of full-time study in English and English Language Arts 30-1 or English Language Arts 30-2 (or equivalent)
LEAP 4 Advanced taken at Mount Royal: LEAP 4 with B- (80%)
TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language), both home or paper version: 86 (min. 20 in each of four sections)
IELTS (International English Language Test [Academic, including Academic Online]): 6.5 (min. 5.5 on each band)
Cambridge English B2 First, C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency: 176
MET (Michigan English Test) (formerly Michigan English Language Assessment Battery MELAB): 62 (min. 53 in all four skills)
PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic, including Academic Online): 58 (min. 55 in each area)
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment): 70 (min. 60 in each band)
Duolingo English Test: 120 overall minimum
LanguageCert Academic: 70 (min. 60 in each band)
