The Recreation Therapy program at Mohawk College is designed to empower individuals with disabilities and limitations to maximize their independence and enhance their leisure lifestyle. Recreation Therapists utilize evidence-based practices to ensure that leisure activities are purposeful and tailored to specific client groups. Program structure

The Recreation Therapy program spans two academic years, consisting of periods of 8 months each. This comprehensive program structure includes:

  • 500 hours of practical experience through multiple practicum placements.
  • Integration of theory and practice, supported by experienced faculty.
  • Unique outdoor experiences, including overnight camps, to foster engagement and belonging.
  • Access to over 6 certifications and workshop trainings to enhance employability.
  • Opportunities for a compressed schedule through an accelerated intake option, allowing completion in 16 months.

Students will also benefit from a dedicated experiential learning lab and a multisensory environment lab space, ensuring a rich learning experience.
