Program overview

The Paralegal program at Mohawk College is designed to equip students with the essential skills needed to practice as licensed paralegals. This program combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for a rewarding career in the legal field. The program is delivered through a hybrid model, incorporating both in-person and online classes, allowing for flexibility in learning. Students will engage in live, synchronous classes, which require active participation through audio and video interaction. This innovative approach is part of a pilot project in collaboration with the Law Society of Ontario, enhancing the educational experience while adhering to professional standards.

Program structure

The Paralegal program spans two academic years, consisting of periods of 8 months each. Students have the option to enroll in a Fast Track program, which allows them to complete the diploma in just 16 months by attending classes continuously across four semesters: Winter, Spring/Summer, Fall, and Winter. The program structure includes:

  • Hybrid delivery with both in-person and online classes.
  • Synchronous online classes that require active participation.
  • Access to a Mock Courtroom for practical learning experiences.
  • Industry-experienced faculty licensed by the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Opportunities for field trips and site visits to enhance learning.

Students will also participate in a 240-hour practicum placement in a law-related setting during their final semester, providing invaluable hands-on experience in the legal field.
