Academic Requirements

The admission process for the Bachelor of Science - Biology (Optional Co-op) program is designed to be competitive and selective. Here are the key requirements:

Admission is limited and based on motivation and overall academic achievement.
Students may be required to participate in an interview as part of the selection process.
Students must first be admitted to the Biology Major.
To be eligible for admission, a student must have completed the second year Biology Core with an overall average of at least 65% in all Biology courses before the start of the first work term.
A student must also maintain an overall average of 65% in all other required courses.
Students must be registered as a full-time student in the semester in which they apply.

Additionally, transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Completion of the second year Biology Core.

Language Requirements

English language proficiency for general admission may be demonstrated through a valid score on one of the following standardized tests taken within two years prior to the start of the semester of admission. Final results should be submitted based on the instructions listed with each test.

Cambridge English Language Assessment: A minimum score of 176 in C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency. Submission: Certificate should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment: A minimum overall score of 60. Submission: Official score report should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Duolingo English Test (DET): A minimum overall score of 115. Submission: Upon receipt of your certified test results, you should send the results from your Duolingo account to Memorial University of Newfoundland.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on the IELTS Academic or IELTS Academic for UKVI with at least a band 6 in reading and writing. General Training results are not acceptable. Submission: Test report form should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Michigan English Test (MET): A minimum score of 59 is required on the MET. Submission: Document must be sent directly from official testing authority to the Office of the Registrar by post or courier.
Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE ACADEMIC): A minimum overall score of 60. Submission: Score Report should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A minimum score of 83 on the TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Home Edition, with a minimum score of 20 in reading and writing. Submission: Score Report should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
