Academic Requirements

To gain admission into the Bachelor of Science - Behavioural Neuroscience program at Memorial University, prospective students must meet specific criteria. Here are the key requirements:

Direct entry into the Faculty of Science from high school requires meeting the general Academic Requirements for Memorial University, which includes appropriate high school courses in mathematics and a laboratory science.
Students cannot choose behavioural neuroscience as their major at the time of application. Admission into the major requires the completion of university-level courses.

For current Memorial students wishing to enter the behavioural neuroscience major, the following criteria must be met:

Completion of a minimum of 24 credit hours (8 courses), including:

Six credit hours in critical reading and writing (CRW) courses, with at least three credit hours in English.
One of the following: Mathematics 1000, 1006, or Statistics 1500, or two of Mathematics 1090, 1050, or 1051 (or equivalent).
Psychology 1000 and 1001.
Six credit hours in elective courses (three elective courses if only Mathematics 1000 is completed).

A minimum average of 65% in Psychology 1000 and 1001, and an overall average of 60% in psychology, CRW, and mathematics courses is required.

It is important to note that admission to the co-op option is competitive and for a limited number of places. Additionally, transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

English language proficiency for general admission may be demonstrated through a valid score on one of the following standardized tests taken within two years prior to the start of the semester of admission. Final results should be submitted based on the instructions listed with each test.

Cambridge English Language Assessment: A minimum score of 176 in C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency. Submission: Certificate should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment: A minimum overall score of 60. Submission: Official score report should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Duolingo English Test (DET): A minimum overall score of 115. Submission: Upon receipt of your certified test results, you should send the results from your Duolingo account to Memorial University of Newfoundland.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on the IELTS Academic or IELTS Academic for UKVI with at least a band 6 in reading and writing. General Training results are not acceptable. Submission: Test report form should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Michigan English Test (MET): A minimum score of 59 is required on the MET. Submission: Document must be sent directly from official testing authority to the Office of the Registrar by post or courier.
Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE ACADEMIC): A minimum overall score of 60. Submission: Score Report should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A minimum score of 83 on the TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Home Edition, with a minimum score of 20 in reading and writing. Submission: Score Report should be uploaded to the admissions portal.
