To be considered for admission to the Bachelor of Science - Nursing program, you must meet the academic requirements listed under the categories of admission and ensure you meet additional admission criteria.
You must meet the following requirements to apply for Fall 2025 or Winter 2026 intake.
This program is competitive. To be eligible for admission into a competitive program, you need to have a higher minimum overall average than that listed in the Categories of Admission below. The competitive criteria indicates the grade range/average we will consider for admission. This competitive average may change as applications are received. The average you need depends on the grades achieved by your peers who are applying to start in the same term.

Categories of admission
Applicants may be admitted to one of the following:
Regular admission
To be evaluated through the Office of the University Registrar. Applicants must have a minimum overall average of 65 per cent, with no course grade lower than 50 percent, in the following high school courses:
ELA 30-1
Mathematics 30-1
Two of Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Mathematics 31, Physics 30 or Computing Science-Advanced Career and Technology Studies (5 credits)
One subject from Group A, B, C, or D
Notes:
A maximum of one Group D subject may be presented. Group D subjects used for admission must be 5-credit or any credit combination of at least 5 credits (e.g., two 3-credit subjects).
Applicants with nine to 23 university-level credits must also present a minimum Admission Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants with 24 or more university-level credits will be considered under Previous Post-Secondary Work.
Mature admission
To be evaluated through the Office of the University Registrar. Applicants must be Canadian applicants, 20 years of age or older, and have been out of full-time high school at least one year by the beginning of the intake term. Applicants must have a minimum overall average of 60 percent, with no course grade lower than 50 percent, in the following high school courses:

Mathematics 30-1
Two of Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Mathematics 31, Physics 30, Computing Science-Advanced Level Career and Technology Studies (5 credits)

Previous post-secondary
To be evaluated through the Office of the University Registrar. Admission in this category does not imply or guarantee the transfer of any coursework and/or credential unless a block transfer agreement (internal or external) is in effect and published in the calendar by the Office of the University Registrar. In addition, transfer of coursework does not imply or guarantee that an applicant will be admitted.
Applicants must have successfully completed the following from a recognized institution:
A minimum of 24 university-level credits with a minimum admission grade point average (AGPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
The required mathematics and science courses listed under the Regular or Mature Admission category.
Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
The English Language Proficiency requirement is designed to ensure that you have the best opportunity for success in your university studies. To apply to undergraduate programs, you must demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency (ELP) prior to admission, regardless of citizenship or country of origin.
Your primary language is defined as the language in which you are most proficient. It is your language of instruction in the last three years of formal study as well as the language you use at home for daily written and oral communication.
If your primary language is English, you meet the ELP requirement. All other applicants must demonstrate fulfillment of ELP by presenting the appropriate requirements for their program and admission intake.
MacEwan University reserves the right to use discretion to determine an applicant’s language proficiency.
Accepted English Language Tests
IELTS Academic: Minimum overall band score 6.5, with minimum sub-band scores of Reading 5.5, Writing 5.5, Listening 6.0, Speaking 7.0.
TOEFL iBT: Minimum total score 86, with minimum sub-scores Reading 21, Listening 23, Speaking 26, Writing 21.
Spoken English Proficiency (SEP): Beyond standard ELP, for this program applicants must demonstrate minimum speaking proficiency: IELTS Speaking minimum 7.0, TOEFL iBT Speaking minimum 26.
