This program is designed to equip students with both practical skills and industry knowledge to succeed in this evolving field. Experience hands-on learning in the campus fish hatchery and earn while you learn with a co-op experience. The Aquaculture program is the only Post-Graduate Certificate in Aquaculture offered in Ontario, preparing graduates for a dynamic and growing global industry focused on food production, conservation, ornamental species, and research applications.

Program structure

The Aquaculture (Co-op) program is structured over two semesters, providing an intensive learning experience that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application. The program includes:

  • Hands-on training in on-campus hatchery facilities.
  • Exposure to aquaponics fundamentals and zebrafish care.
  • Field trips to real-world industry environments, including trout farms.
  • Business training to navigate the challenges of aquaculture enterprises.
  • A final semester that includes an 8-week, off-site, paid co-op experience.
