Academic Requirements

To apply for the Carpentry and Renovation Technician program at Fanshawe College, applicants must meet the following Academic Requirements:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or a mature applicant with the following course:

Grade 12 Math (C or U) - MCT4C preferred

Students who do not meet the Academic Requirements are recommended for academic upgrading. A conditional offer may be possible with proof of enrolment. Alternatively, applicants may choose to complete the one-year Pre-Technology preparatory program, which provides all the Academic Requirements for this program.

For international students, admission equivalencies depend on the country of study. Please contact LOA Portal's advisors for any clarification and support regarding specific requirements based on your location.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

It is also recommended that students in the Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) program take a Technical or Apprenticeship Mathematics course within the ACE program.

For personal preparation, summer employment in construction or related activities is advised.

In terms of applicant selection criteria, preference is given to Permanent Residents of Ontario, and applications received by February 1st will be prioritized. Achievement in the Academic Requirements is also considered.

Note: Admission to the Fanshawe College Pre-Technology program does not guarantee admission in a subsequent year to the Carpentry and Renovation Technician program. However, successful completion of the Pre-Technology program enables the student to be given additional consideration when applying to the Carpentry and Renovation Technician program.

English Language Requirements

To apply for the Carpentry and Renovation Technician program at Fanshawe College, international applicants must meet specific English language requirements. The following tests and scores are accepted:

TOEFL iBT: 79
IELTS Academic: Overall score of 6.0 with no score less than 5.5 in any of the four bands
CAEL: Overall score of 60 with no score less than 50 in any of the four bands; score of 80 in listening
PTE Academic: 53
Cambridge English: Overall score of 169 with no language skill less than 162
ESL4/GAP5: Minimum grade of 80% in Level 8, 75% in Level 9, or 70% in Level 10
Duolingo: Overall score of 105, with no score lower than 95
