The Electrical Engineering Technician program is a two-year Ontario College Diploma designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills that are highly valued by employers in the electrical industry. This program focuses on the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of various electrical systems, including cable loops, fire suppression systems, and robotics. Students will gain hands-on experience using state-of-the-art equipment, ensuring they are career-ready upon graduation. The program is recognized by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT), which acknowledges it as meeting the academic requirements for certification in the Certified Technician (C.Tech) category.

Program structure

The Electrical Engineering Technician program spans a two-year period, providing a comprehensive education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience. The program structure includes:

  • Extensive practical labs to apply theoretical concepts.
  • Courses covering electrical principles, codes, and regulations.
  • Opportunities for real-world experience through a paid co-operative education (co-op) work term, subject to availability and academic eligibility.
  • Encouragement to register as an Associate member of OACETT while studying.

This program prepares students for further education, such as pursuing an Electrical Engineering Technology Ontario College Advanced Diploma or transferring into Year 3 of the Electrical Engineering program at Lakehead University.
