Academic Requirements

For students applying to the Bachelor of Arts program at St. Francis Xavier University, the Academic Requirements are as follows:

The minimum admission requirement for high school students is an overall average of 70% in Grade 12, with no grade below 65% in each of the required subjects. It is important to note that admission to limited enrolment programs is competitive, and meeting the minimum average does not guarantee admission.

Students who are currently in Grade 12 and applying for early admission must have the program requirements completed in Grade 11 and be registered in the program prerequisites in Grade 12 to be eligible for an early offer. Otherwise, offers will be made after the receipt of the final first-term Grade 12 transcript.

For international students, the following requirements apply:

• Students must provide transcripts that may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
• Students from Vietnam must submit their Hoc Ba (year 10, 11, and 12 results) and Bằng Tốt Nghiệp Trung Học Phổ Thông (Secondary School Graduation Certificate).

Language Requirements

At St. Francis Xavier University, proof of English language proficiency is a requirement for applicants whose first language is not English. This requirement is applicable regardless of the applicant's country of origin, citizenship status, or language of instruction. The university reserves the right to request proof of language proficiency as a condition of acceptance.

For students applying from countries where English is not an official language, it is typically necessary to submit a recognized English language proficiency test. The test results must be no older than two years at the time of application to be considered valid.

Accepted English language proficiency tests and their minimum score requirements include:

• IELTS: 6.5 overall with no band lower than 6.0. Accepting IELTS One Skill Retake.
• TOEFL: 90 iBT with no band lower than 20. MyBest Scores accepted.
• MET: 55.
• CAEL: 70 overall with no band lower than 60.
• C1 Advanced: 180 overall with no band lower than 170.
• C2 Proficiency: 180 overall with no band lower than 170.
• Duolingo: 115 with no integrated subscore lower than 100.
• Pearson Test of English – Academic: 60 overall with no score below 50.
• Oxford ELLT Digital: 7 overall with no band lower than 6.
• Oxford ELLT Global: 7 overall with no band lower than 6.

Students may be exempt from providing proof of English language proficiency if they meet certain criteria, such as having studied for the last two years in an English medium institution or achieving a minimum 70% average in Grade 12 English through the Nova Scotia International Students Program (NSISP).

If an applicant's test scores fall below the minimum requirement but they meet other admission criteria, they may be offered conditional admission into the English for Academic Purposes program, provided they successfully complete the program.
