Program Overview

The Water and Wastewater Treatment Operations program is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and practical skills necessary for a successful career in the water and wastewater industry. Developed by industry professionals, this program combines in-class theory with hands-on training, preparing students for certifications such as the Alberta Water and Wastewater Operators (AWWOA) and Alberta Boiler and Safety Association (ABSA) Fourth-Class Power Engineering. Students will learn about water chemistry, microbiology, and the physical treatment processes required to meet environmental safety and public health standards.

 

Through extensive laboratory and fieldwork, students will gain practical experience in operating treatment facilities, maintaining equipment, and performing critical water quality tests. The program also emphasizes troubleshooting and understanding regulatory and environmental issues related to water and wastewater management, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the workforce.

Program Structure

The Water and Wastewater Treatment Operations program spans a duration of one year and is structured into three semesters. The program includes:

  • In-person classes at the Main Campus.
  • A four-month, 600-hour practicum in the final semester, providing real-world experience.
  • Hands-on training in laboratory and fieldwork settings.
  • Preparation for industry-required certifications, including AWWOA and ABSA.

 

This program is designed to blend theoretical knowledge with practical skills, ensuring that students are ready to meet the demands of the water and wastewater industry upon graduation.
