Program Overview

The Academic Upgrading program at Red Deer Polytechnic is designed to assist individuals who are missing high school prerequisites for their desired post-secondary programs. This program not only helps students upgrade their academic skills but also prepares them for better employment opportunities. By participating in this program, students can work towards earning a High School Equivalency diploma, which is recognized by the Alberta Council on Admissions and Transfer (ACAT) as equivalent to Alberta Education high school standards. The program offers flexibility, allowing students to take courses individually or in a structured manner, either on campus or online.

Program Structure

The Academic Upgrading program is structured to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet entrance requirements for various post-secondary programs. The program is designed to be completed in 1 term, offering both full-time and part-time options. Students can choose to learn:

  • On campus
  • Online
  • A blend of both
