Program overview

The English as a Second Language program at Northern Lights College is designed to provide Second Language students with a pathway to academic success in post-secondary education. This program is delivered by highly trained EASL instructors in small class settings that emphasize inclusion and community. By completing this program, students will not only meet the English entrance requirements for various post-secondary programs at Northern Lights College but will also enhance their communication skills, which are essential for employment opportunities.

Program structure

The English as a Second Language program offers a structured approach to learning, allowing students to progress through different levels of English proficiency. The program is available in both full-time and part-time formats, with multiple intakes throughout the year:

• April

Each level of the program consists of approximately 300 hours of instruction, with the exception of level 5, which has 288 hours. A typical learner can complete one level per semester, ensuring a steady progression in language skills. The program is designed to be flexible, accommodating various learning paces and schedules.
