The Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies at the Mount is designed to place women’s experiences and knowledge at the forefront of critical inquiry. This program emphasizes the transformation of women's societal positions by examining their accomplishments and struggles through various lenses, including gender, race, class, sexual orientation, and ability. Students can choose to pursue an honours, major, or minor in Women’s Studies, as well as a minor in Queer Studies. The program is committed to fostering an understanding of the complexities surrounding women's issues in a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary context.

Program structure

The Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies offers a flexible structure that allows students to tailor their education according to their interests and career goals. The program options include:

  • Single Honours Degree: A four-year program that culminates in a thesis, allowing for independent research.
  • Single or Combined Major Degree: A three-year program where students can major solely in Women’s Studies or combine it with another discipline.
  • Minor in Women’s Studies: Ideal for students who wish to integrate Women’s Studies courses with their primary major.
  • Minor in Queer Studies: A newly introduced option that explores sexuality and gender intersections, which can be combined with a major in Women’s Studies or another program.

Additionally, the program is characterized by small class sizes, fostering close relationships between students and professors, which enhances the learning experience. Students can also take individual courses as electives, making it accessible to those in related fields such as Cultural Studies, English, and Sociology.
