Academic Requirements

To apply for the Early Learning and Child Care Certificate program at Keyano College, students must meet the following Academic Requirements:

High school diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of:
- 50% in English 30-1 or
- 65% in English 30-2.
Mature students (21 years or older on the first day of classes or have been out of school for at least three consecutive years) must have:
- 50% in English 30-1 or
- 65% in English 30-2 or
- A pass mark on the College Entrance Assessment.

For international students, the following requirements apply:

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
English Language Proficiency must be demonstrated through one of the following tests:
- TOEFL: iBT with a minimum score of 79 with no score below 19
- IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0
- CAEL with a minimum score of 60
- MELAB with a minimum score of 80
- Duolingo with a minimum score of 95
- PTE (academic) with a minimum score of 50

Additionally, there are pre-practicum requirements that must be fulfilled:

Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check must be submitted on the first day of classes, and the application should not be made earlier than the second week of July.
Child Care First Aid must be completed before beginning the first practicum, which can often be done during the first week of class. Students are responsible for the cost associated with this training.
References may be required; students should have three references available, including their names, phone numbers, and email addresses (no family members).
