Program Overview

Embark on a rewarding career as a Developmental Services Worker and make a significant difference in the lives of individuals living with disabilities. This program focuses on supporting children and adults with physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities, as well as dual diagnoses. You will learn to address their emotional, mental, physical, and social needs through a person-centered approach.

 

Throughout the program, you will gain a solid understanding of human development stages and the community supports available for those with disabilities. You will also learn various modes of communication, including sign language and picture exchange systems, to effectively engage with individuals and their families, ensuring they lead safe, respectful, and inclusive lives.

Program Structure

The Developmental Services Worker program is designed to be completed in 4 semesters over 2 years. This structure allows students to gain comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in the field. Key features of the program include:

  • Flexible learning options: Students can choose between on-campus or fully online classes.
  • Field placement opportunities in all four semesters, with the potential for placements during paid employment.
  • Fast-track option available for those with prior experience in developmental services or education.
  • Engaging on-campus learning activities for hands-on experiences.

 

Students who prefer online learning will engage with interactive content through Cambrian’s Learning Management System, allowing for virtual connections with professors. Field placements can be coordinated within the student’s home community, ensuring practical experience is accessible and relevant.
