Academic Requirements

The Advanced Visual Effects (VFX) and Virtual Production program at Bow Valley College has specific academic requirements for prospective students. Here are the key points to consider:

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Alternatively, completion of English 30-1, English 30-2 or equivalent is acceptable.
• Students may also qualify through satisfactory results on the Bow Valley College Admission and Placement Test.
• A portfolio submission of 15 to 20 pieces of artistic work in digital format is mandatory. This portfolio should reflect a broad range of techniques, influences, styles, and subject matter, showcasing the original work of the applicant. If any piece is collaborative, contributors must be listed along with a description of the applicant's contribution.

International Students: It is essential for international applicants to check whether their previous studies completed outside Canada meet the admission requirements using the country-specific document list.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

To be admitted to the Advanced Visual Effects (VFX) and Virtual Production Diploma program at Bow Valley College, you must demonstrate English proficiency. The accepted English language tests and their minimum required scores are as follows:

• BVC Academic English 1: Not accepted
• BVC Academic English 2: Minimum grade of Grade B-
• CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks): 8 in each strand (listening, speaking, reading, writing)
• Duolingo: 110
• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): 83
• IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing Service): 6.0 with minimum band score 6.0
• Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 59 - 64

Alternatively, you can meet the language requirements through:

• Successful completion of an Alberta Education English Language Arts course (or equivalent from education in Canada) that aligns with the specified academic admission requirements for the career program.
• Transcripts showing three (3) years of full-time high school where English was the language of instruction.
• Transcripts demonstrating successful completion of one (1) year of full-time post-secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction.

Note: English language test results are valid for two (2) years from the day of testing. Results that expire before the program start date cannot be accepted. Official results must be submitted.
