Program overview

The Bachelor of Kinesiology (Optional Co-op) program at Wilfrid Laurier University combines a passion for sport and physical activity with a comprehensive understanding of human movement. This program integrates knowledge from various disciplines, including natural sciences, social sciences, and health. Students will engage in hands-on training, preparing them for diverse careers in health and fitness, rehabilitation, and sports management. With a focus on practical experience, graduates will leave equipped with the skills necessary to excel in their chosen fields.

Program structure

The Bachelor of Kinesiology program is designed to be completed in four years. Students can choose to enhance their degree with various options, including:

  • Co-op opportunities, allowing students to gain practical work experience.
  • Concentrations in areas such as Athletic Performance and Injury Management, Movement, Health and Development, Physical Activity Education and Promotion, or Sport Development and Management.
  • Management Option for those interested in business education.
  • Teaching Option, providing a direct pathway to Laurier's Bachelor of Education program.

Students will also have the chance to participate in community leadership placements and work with synthetic cadavers in anatomy courses, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience.

  • Co-op Program: Apply for co-op at the end of the first year and complete work terms throughout the degree.

  • Community Leadership Placement: Complete 96 hours of community-based leadership or volunteer work, potentially with the Sun Life Centre for Healthy Communities.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Kinesiology program can pursue a variety of career paths in Canada, including:

  • Occupational Therapist: Help patients improve their ability to perform daily activities through therapeutic techniques.
  • Physical Therapist: Assist individuals in recovering from injuries and improving their physical function.
  • Exercise Physiologist: Design and implement exercise programs to improve health and fitness.
  • Fitness Trainer: Provide guidance and support to clients in achieving their fitness goals.
