Academic Requirements

To apply for the Bachelor of Music (BMus) program at the University of Victoria, students must meet the following Academic Requirements:

• Apply directly to this program as a high school student or a transfer student from another post-secondary institution.
• Alternatively, students can choose another major and add this program as a minor to broaden their studies.
• Recommended admission average is not specified, but students are encouraged to maintain a strong academic record.

For international students, the following details are important:

• Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

All applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency to attend UVic. If you need to demonstrate proof of language proficiency, you can do so through academic studies, English language proficiency tests, or programs offered by UVic's English Language Centre (ELC).

English language proficiency can be demonstrated through academic studies as follows:

• Completion of four years of secondary and/or post-secondary full-time academic studies in which all language of instruction is English, in Canada or a recognized English-speaking country.
• Completion of four years of full-time academic studies at a recognized international curriculum secondary school in which all language of instruction is English.
• Completion of a recognized degree program from an accredited university in which all language of instruction is English, in a recognized English-speaking country.
• Completion of Grade 12 English or its equivalent in Canada with a final grade of 86% or higher within the last three years prior to admission.
• Completion of 1.5 or more units of transfer credit for university-level English courses.
• A score of 4 or higher on the Advanced Placement Exam in English Language and Composition.
• A score of 4 or higher on the Advanced Placement Exam in English Language and Literature.
• A score of 4 or higher on IB Higher Level English A.

English language proficiency can also be demonstrated by submitting acceptable scores from the following tests:

• CAEL: 70 (no section less than 60)
• Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: 180 (no skill less than 170)
• IELTS Academic: 6.5 (no component less than 6.0)
• MET (4-skill only): 64
• PTE: 65 (no skill less than 60)
• TOEFL iBT: 90 (no section less than 20)
